NETWORKING - INPUT - COOPERATION - SUPPORT - QUALITY OF LIFE

PfCONA was formed in 1985 by Pflugerville residents who wanted to provide a forum for neighborhood groups to collectively air their concerns and work with the City Council to resolve problems.

Its goal was to bring the community together. This goal continues today. Won't you join us in "building the community together?"

A diverse group of 50 participants on all sides of the horse track issue from 19 neighborhoods took part in deliberative discussion and 27 turned in pre-forum questionnaires.

Special guest was Taylor Willingham with Texas Forums, sponsored by LBJ Library and Museum. See www.texasforums.org for more information on Texas Forums and public forum/deliberative discussion training, which three members of PfCONA Executive Committee recently completed.

AUGUST 2004 - Meeting included panelists on the subject of Capital Metro's All Systems Go plan for light commuter rail.  The horse racing track possibility was also discussed. Meeting purpose was to: 1) learn the about the particular commuter rail system Cap Metro has in mind for abandoned MoKan corridor; 2) to gain Capital Metro's feedback on how its 30-year plan meshes with Pflugerville's 20+ year downtown master plan and its need to garner funding/grants for the various concept projects, one of which includes a train depot/visitor complex and parking; and, 3) to get initial feedback from those present on what Capital Metro has to offer the community. Click here for link to Cap Metro effort. At a 7/13 Council Work Session, Cap Metro made a long-term plan presentation. Representative said commuter light rail is quieter than a bus and takes less than 10 seconds to go through an intersection.

The input at these meetings was incorporated into PfCONA's "Setting Our Direction for Pflugerville's Future" document.  This document came about in July 2001 when community leaders responded to a PfCONA invite to discuss what was "working well" in Pflugerville and "what needed attention" in relation to public safety, parks and recreation, transportation and roads, quality of life issues, and miscellaneous.
