QUALITY OF LIFE |
PfCONA
was formed in 1985 by Pflugerville residents who wanted to provide a forum for
neighborhood groups to collectively air their concerns and work with the City Council to
resolve problems.
Its goal was to bring the community together. This goal continues today. Won't you join us
in "building the community together?" |

PFLUGERVILLE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION
The Pflugerville Community Development
Corporation, which collects and administers a half-cent sales tax, meets at 7:00 p.m.
on the second and fourth Thursday each month at City Hall, 100 Main. St.
(5/29/03) PCDC Awards First Challenge
Grant -- The City's hike and bike trails got a boost when the PCDC awarded its first
Challenge Grant of $9,281.5 in matching funds to build a new trail along Gilleland Creek.
"They're an attraction," said Chief David Buesing. "A lot of people say
that. I think our trails are a drawing card for people. I don't know that they bring a Pay
Less store to town, or a Wal-mart, but they do bring people and a quality of life."
The City Parks and Recreation Department applied for the PCDC Challenge Grant to
supplement its own funds to develop the trail, which will run west from Pfluger Park to
Kuempel Crossing along the south side of Gilleland Creek, at an estimated cost of $27,843.
The additional $18,562.50 will come from the revenue generated by this year's Deutschen
Pfest, which was attended by more than 17,500 people and likely raised nearly $40,000 for
the Parks and Recreation Department.
Pflugerville is asking for $100,000 from Texas Parks and Wildlife to create about 4,450 of
trail and a small parking lot. The City is offering $57,000 in matching funds, bringing
the total cost to $157,000. The City currently has 8.75 miles of trail, and the new
portion along Gilleland Creek would add 900 feet, connecting two existing lengths of
trail.
The PCDC 4B Board established the Challenge Grant program in April of this year and slated
10-percent of 4B Sales Tax collection for match money for development projects. Based on
last year's sales tax collections, $56,000 was set aside this year for Challenge Grant
Projects, and the PCDC plans to award between five and 10 grants.
